MyDish launched at the beginning of 2008. Their vision is to be the most popular social network for people who are passionate about cooking.
The site currently attracts 120,000 visitors per month and has 42,000 members and 12,000 recipes to share. The site now includes bespoke features like 'What’s in my fridge' and a shopping list where you can choose your recipes and it collates all the required ingredients, by aisle! You can then print or email to yourself or shop online.
The MyDish business model is built mainly on generating advertising and sponsorship income by working with brands such as Twinings, Pataks, Maltesers, Birds Eye, Alpro and Coca Cola. The team have also created versions of MyDish for use on other companies websites including The Mailonline, The Telegraph, BT and Tesco.
This was an interesting one for me, bearing in mind I haven't cooked a meal in 25 years! Carol was key to my investment decision, with an impressive track record in terms of both raising funds and delivering a profitable business. Whilst this might not be home ground for me, she clearly explained the market, the business model and why www.mydish.co.uk was the perfect site to take advantage of the huge surge of interest in social eating. With a number of impressive trading partners already signed up I could see that she was already off to a good start. I got the sense that Carol was a real achiever, someone I could work with to maximise the opportunity.
