Business mastermind Deborah Meaden, 49, appears in BBC series Dragons' Den. Now worth £40million, she started her career selling ceramics before taking over her parents' holiday park business. She sold it last year for £30million.
Stand in front of me and ask me for a quarter of a million pounds when
you can't be bothered to tell me what your turnover numbers are and I
am that person. People try to let me off the hook and say I'm much
nicer in real life - but if somebody is asking me for my money, my job
at that moment is to establish whether or not this is a good
investment, not to win friends and influence people.

I have been described as driven, and I have to admit this is probably right. I
love a challenge, and I love the feeling of success and achievement, and this
means that I will always make sure that my life is full of things that can
satisfy this. These can range from making acquisitions, through to seeing my
investments flourish, or even taking on new adventures, such as Dragons’ Den. 
As a Dragon she is quick to decide. She shies away from any pitch where there is a whiff of nonsense or where there is no unique selling point, or USP.
