Deborah lends her support to entrepreneurs in the developing world

Lend with care Deborah Meaden is a lendwithcare.org ambassador. She travelled to Cambodia in March 2011 to see first hand how lendwithcare can help people work their way out of poverty.

Speaking after her visit Deborah said "I believe that providing the opportunity and framework for people to help themselves is the only sustainable way forward and I saw this very clearly on my trip to Cambodia. The people there are willing to work to repair their lives, they just need even the smallest of leg-ups to get them started."

Set up by one of the world’s leading aid and development organisations CARE International, lendwithcare.org works with poor people in developing countries to provide much-needed access to basic financial services and entrepreneurial training. This helps entrepreneurs start and develop their own businesses - and build a better future for themselves and their families.

Most of the world’s poorest people still have no access to basic financial services – and little hope of lifting themselves out of poverty. That’s why lendwithcare was set up and that’s why they need your support.

All you have to do is visit www.lendwithcare.org and choose a promising entrepreneur / business. When you’ve made your decision, you provide a loan to get the entrepreneur’s business plans off the ground. You can make a contribution towards the total needed, in increments of £15 or more, or you can invest the full amount yourself.

Regular updates about the entrepreneur are posted on the lendwithcare.org website, so you can follow their amazing progress. And you can see how their new source of income (and your loan) is transforming every aspect of their lives – paying for food, medicine and school fees, and providing a better future for their whole family.

The entrepreneur gradually pays back their loan and the repayments are credited to your lendwithcare.org account. You usually get your money back in full and on time. Sometimes however, just like any business, things might not go to plan.

When repayments are credited to your account you have a choice. You can decide to withdraw your money using a PayPal account. You can donate it to CARE International and fund their life-changing work throughout the world. Or you can do what most lenders do and make another loan, helping even more entrepreneurs turn their plans for business – and their hopes for a better future – into reality.
