Deborah helps to promote 'Design for Growth'

Design CouncilDeborah joined The Design Council in 2011, on a new Board of Trustees that includes influential thinkers and globally respected names from the worlds of design, business, the built environment, arts and education.

Deborah and the new Board of Trustees take responsibility for the governance of the Design Council, including setting the vision and strategy, acting as guardians of the assets and ensuring that the objectives of the charities continue to be met in the public interest.

The appointments are part of the restructuring of the Design Council following the organisation’s merger with CABE and its change of status from being a public body to being a charity from the 1st of April 2011. Uniting two world-class centres of design excellence, the merger reflects the widening role and influence of design.

Design for Growth

Design for GrowthFollowing the government's newly published 'Innovation and Research Strategy for Growth' the Design Council have published a parallel paper 'Design for Innovation' full of practical plans on delivering design leadership in government and growing the knowledge base on the role and impact of design.

ManufacturingThey have also created a set of four films about Design for Growth that feature Deborah. It is hoped that these films will help people understand the vital role design plays in economic growth - and what it can do for businesses, public services, for our built environment and our design industry.

About the Design Council & CABE

Starting life in 1944 as the Council of Industrial Design, the Design Council has a proven track record encouraging innovation. Similarly, CABE, the successor of the Royal Fine Art Commission, is the respected champion and enabler of design quality in the built environment. Together, as a leaner, more focused ‘enterprising charity’, they are determined to put design at the heart of Britain’s social and economic renewal.

Their vision:  Design leads to social and economic renewal
Their role:  To provide the evidence and to demonstrate how design can make an impact.

Design Council CABE is a unified voice for a broad spectrum of design, architecture and public space, placing good design at the heart of social and economic renewal. They provide evidence and demonstrate how design can help build a stronger economy and improve everyday life through practical projects with industry, public services and education.
