Mix your own dance music website
Business description
Originally seen in the den as 'MixAlbum', the rebranded FitMixPro.com is
a music service with a difference, and the change in name came from a
change in business direction. FitMixPro is powered by the world's 1st Auto-DJ system, so the tracks
you choose are seamlessly beat-matched for you to download as a
continuous mix. You can even try it for yourself with a 'Demo Mix' of the tracks
that you choose.
Originally MixAlbum.com was aimed at the dance compilations market, but
always struggled against the preferred option that many potential
customers went for - downloading mixes illegally for free! However, as soon as the original website was launched there was a
constant stream of interest from Fitness Professionals; here was a
system where they could choose their tracks, the length of the mix, even
the speeds they wanted and create seamless mixes that are
essential to keep classes in step.
With some added features and new artwork, FitMixPro.com was born
in September 2009 and has grown nearly every month since. It's now the
number 1 download site in the UK for Fitness Professionals.
So the next time you're in a fitness class you may be grapevine-ing to music from FitMixPro!

Deborah's reasons for investing
Ian’s training as a patent lawyer gave him a discipline, he was logical, held his ground and didn’t fall to pieces when the technology failed him momentarily. I saw that he had identified a niche in the market and felt he was a ‘doer’. That combination was, for me, spot on.
What’s happened since they appeared in the Den?
When Ian Chamings entered the Den in 2006, Deborah and fellow dragon
Theo Paphitis invested in MixAlbum.com and the technology behind it; the
world's only fully automated mixer, developed and patented by Ian.
Since appearing in the Den Mixalbum has changed immeasurably. With
Deborah and Theo onboard doors opened and deals were signed with major
record labels such as Sony BMG, EMI and Ministry of Sound, and the
service went live in August 2007, and was rebranded FitMixPro.com in
September 2009.
Latest update from Ian
I kept getting emails from fitness instructors asking for a few tweaks,
some new features, but at the time I thought: 'How many aerobics
instructors are there, it can't be that big a market?' How wrong I was!
Getting the right licences for a download service for professional
fitness was tricky - in fact when we started looking into it they simply
didn't exist. But once we sorted this out FitMixPro had the all-clear
for launch and it was an instant hit. For instructors, the ability to
customise their mix gives them an extra tool to shape their classes;
plus choosing their tracks means they can really boost motivation, which
in the end improves their client retention.
In addition to our own site we also distribute mixes through some of the
top fitness presenters in Europe, and we've just signed an exciting
deal with Keiser to provide a music solution for their indoor cycling
customers. This involved taking part in a spin-class at a fitness
convention. I have since recovered, but if you're new to spinning I'd
recommend not starting in a class full of professionals!
