Gaining Deborah’s investment is child’s play for YUUworld
Gill Hayward and Kellie Forbes from YUUworld gain Deborah’s investment in their kids activity backpacks in the latest episode of Dragons’ Den.
The exciting range of ergonomically designed YUU and YUUtuu backpacks are packed full of features for kids including a fold down desk and detachable pencil case. Each bag comes with a free YUUfun pack which contains a magnetic snakes and ladders game, scribble sticks and pad and much more.
Gill said, “We created our kids activity backpacks after spotting a gap in the market – there just wasn’t a product that had the fun, functionality and multi-use that we, as parents, were looking for. So, we decided to create it.”
“We went into the Den feeling secretly confident that we would secure investment from a Dragon - but to have offers from all five was really overwhelming,” said Kellie. She continued, “During our time in the Den it became very clear that Deborah Meaden was a Dragon to add real value to YUUworld."
Deborah and fellow Dragon Peter Jones each invested £30k in YUUworld in exchange for a combined share of 30% in the business. Deborah said about Kellie & Gill, “They are both clearly smart and energetic, with strong emotional intelligence, which is important because it helps you sense what your customer wants. They were also demonstrably keeping ahead of the game through product development. I knew that there would be no resting on their laurels with these two…and I was right!”
After gaining the Dragons’ backing Gill said, “Deborah really captured both our passion for YUUworld and its future, as well as encapsulating our vision for growth. We are thrilled she is on board and we are really looking forward to expanding YUUworld with her advice and input.”
